Support

   Prayer:
Life as a missionary can be extremely difficult. I could not do what I do without the prayers and support of my community in the US. Please pray for me- that God would use me however He sees fit, and that I continue to grow in my faith. Pray for Sonlight- our staff, students, and for our ministry in Port-de-Paix. Pray for Haiti- that God would restore this broken nation and turn the hearts of its people back to Him.

   Financial Support:
As a volunteer missionary, I rely solely on my supporters to continue working in Haiti. Support costs cover travel and living expenses, among other things (see detailed budget below). While relying on the support of others is very humbling, it is also incredibly encouraging to see how God uses communities to support and spur others on in their work for Him. If you feel led to give, here are a few ways to donate.

Estimated Budget for 2015-2016: $25,000

Budget Details:

Airfare and Transportation- This covers flights to and from the US, in country flights from Port-au-Prince to Port-de-Paix.

Meals and Special Occasions- Sonlight staff have one meal together each day school is in session.  The lunch meal is covered by part of the support raised by staff.  Special Occasions include all staff celebrations like Christmas, Easter, etc.

Healthcare- Although there is not technically health insurance for Sonlight staff, Sonlight does use a Christian organization that will provide basic health coverage.

Housing- Sonlight owns or rents apartments or homes that are used for staff housing.  This amount pays rent or reimburses construction costs to Sonlight for that housing, as well as pays for furnishings.

Utilities- Water, propane, & electricity. Sonlight uses diesel generators for powering staff homes.  The cost for the purchase, maintenance, and fuel for these generators is expensive.  Fuel is considerably more expensive in Haiti than the U.S.  It is currently about 36% more costly in Haiti for diesel fuel.

Freight and Customs- This covers the shipping costs for when I make food orders from the US, ship household items from the US, etc.

Mail Service- This is for postal costs during the year.

Salary- Staff salaries are set by the Board of Directors based on number of years on the field.  Although some of the basics are provided, personal costs for food (other than the one meal on school days), clothes,  phone, personal giving, or any other personal expenses are covered by staff salaries.

Deferred Investment- This money is set aside by Sonlight for when I return to the US after completing my mission term.  This was put in place by the Board of Directors to assist missionaries upon their return to the US for costs such as housing, automobile expenses, etc.
